It offers a comfortable, upright position and a seat height that is confidence building. The light clutch action, smoothly shifting gears, comfortable seat, low weight and wide handlebar makes riding pleasant and easy. There are noticeable shortcomings.

See if you can score a test ride on the g650gs and g650xc from a BMW dealer or post up in your region for a looksee at folks bikes in your area. The XCountry is a lot lighter, so it also depends on your skill level and how strong you are when you need to pick it up. One noob friend of ours got an F650gs as first bike.
